  Arrived at 8:40 AM (they opened at 9), no appointment because the earliest appointment available was a month away. Took until 12:30ish to get a number after filling out the electronic license application. Person giving out the numbers checked my documents and told me it was going to be more than two hours. Fine. Went and got lunch and coffee, came back at 2 PM. Finally got called at 5:30 PM only to be told they couldn't process my name change for a real ID because my passport has my maiden name, even though the CA DMV website clearly says that in that instance you need to provide a marriage certificate (which I had) or other name change document. Argue with the clerk and then the manager, and they finally say that they can submit the application but that it will have to get reviewed in Sacramento. Ok, fine, that's different than you can't do it at all. Manager gives me grief about not changing my passport first. Um, maybe I would have if your website didn't clearly say that doing it this way was fine?! I get that the website isn't your fault, but don't try to make it my fault for following the instructions. Also, if there was going to be an issue, why didn't the first document-checking person say something before letting me wait another 5 hours? She knew I was there for a Real ID + name change and she asked to see the marriage certificate because the names didn't match. They processed it in the end... we'll see if my Real ID ever shows up. Finally escaped at 6:30 PM.
  
  Oh yeah, and they use your initials and last 4 digits of your phone number as your call number, so you have literally no way to know where they are in the queue.
